So yeah. The title is true. I'm going to be writing a full-fledged Dystopian book. Think of it as kind of like Divergent... but without a shitty ending and without factions (no spoilers plzerino). I just need some character names at this point and I'll be off to writing. If anyone wants to pitch in a few, feel free! I'll be updating you guys as I progress with the book.
Also, please be serious. I'd like to have serious names in my book and not "420blazeityoloswag mc69er" as a character.
I think a little bit of background on some characters or at least a general idea of their role in the story would make it much easier to choose a good name. Best of luck with the book!
Do you want regular names like Ben or something a little more creative and somewhat sci-fi ish like Aurora
Seeing I've been where you are at (I've started writing a book) I'll give you some tips and tricks: for names, just look at the genre you want to write about, and browse on the internet. (I always enjoy finding a name that has some legacy or ties to the subject) Work out your main characters in advance.. Work out how their personalities are, how they react to certain things and write that shit down! Else you will always end up having to think about every single reaction (if you wanna keep it authentic) Work out your main storyline, make sure you know your ending and plot. Make a storyboard before you begin. Just starting a book with no direction is simply asking for a writersblock. So as example : Main char in city growing up with uncle and aunt --> Main char gets visitor --> Harry, you're a wizard --> off to school with magical train. You honestly will have to live, eat and breathe your story for it to become 'alive'. Describe atleast 1 different 'sense' in every paragraph. (smell, sound, touch...) Describe mundain things too, like how the light influences a room.. You might see this in your head, but your reader won't have the same picture unless you describe it. Do not describe too much though, have you tried reading the lord of the rings.. It's the one example where the movie is actually better
I was reading this and I was was impressed by how much good advice you were giving and the amount that you put into it. But I have to disagree on your statement above, the movies fail in comparison to the books. They don't have the depth that the books have, and does not give the entire plot. The main reason that the movies are so successful is because of the amount of detail that the books give. The details allows the movies to be very precise and give accurate portraits of the characters, nations, and overall atmosphere. Other than that I was impressed by your post. Also good luck to you Kythol.
I honestly couldn't suggest any names that wouldn't be taken directly drone game of thrones. I'm a bit of a fan girl. I wish you luck though, and I'd like to see how the story progresses.
Alright guys, update 1 time! Thank you all for the suggestions. Inserted: Joel Working on: Storyboard (thank you for the suggestion forcie!) Finished: First chapter of Rough Draft #1 ( just an introduction, but it's something) How it's going to end (not written, but will be located on my storyboard) Title of book (will keep secret until done with Rough Draft) So far, a list of characters: Porter Lowe - Main character Ross - Best friend of main character Joel - Best friend of main character Rachel - Love interest of main character, ends up becoming best friend of main character Blair - Head scientist (will come into play in middle of book) Keep the suggestions coming guys!
If you are gonna describe use a bit of vocabulary about it. Simple and complex. When introducing something that is new explain it just a tad bit if its rather complex. Slang? Depends.
Head scientist? Do you mean clinically persuasive person? Albert fish i recommend looking up for that stuff...
